Get ready!
In college, I worked at a little gymnastics studio called Bitterroot Gymnastics, in Missoula, MT. The amount of love and adoration I had for those people and that place have never been equaled in all my life. The owners worked to create a gymnastics and acrobatic studio founded on the performing arts. We worked together to train hard, and create collaborative pieces of art for the community at large to enjoy.
What they brought to the table was unique. It was non competitive, yet it pushed people to perform and shine at their best. It was collaborative- it taught people work ethic, timing, listening, and communicating. The joy of teaching a skill, watching somebody work hard to achieve it, and then have them perform it in such a unique and beautiful way is unmatched.
It was there that I first fell in love with the aerial arts. Each year, we invited guest performers to come work along side us and the kids to perform a solo act, and to create an act or two with the kids. One of our performers was an aerialist from Cirque Du Soleil. She was jaw dropping gorgeous as a performer. I begged to take a few lessons from her, and from there, I was absolutely hooked.
Over 10 years have gone by since then, and I am finally at a point in my life where it makes sense to take the leap and create a studio of my own. It is terrifying, but so exciting!
